If you plan on carrying rear seat passengers the A4 will be tight once the front seat on an a4 is back the rear seats are tight. Audi's A5 is essentially an A4 with a more expensive body style. The Sportback, coupe and cabriolet each employ the same engine as the A4. S5 Sportback, coupe and cabriolet versions use the same 3.0-liter V6 found in the S4. The A6 is Audi's midsize luxury sedan, which was redesigned for the 2019 model year.
The interior of the Audi is perhaps cleaner and more "plush" but certainly not leaps and bounds beyond the Passat. As much as one would like to justify the heavier price of the A4 by arguing that it is entirely different and significantly better than VW's current products, I would have to disagree.
